Grant has introduced its QR hot water cylinder range, developed in direct response to Ireland’s growing adoption of heat-pump technology for both new builds and retrofit projects. This shift away from conventional high-temperature boilers aligns with stricter energy efficiency regulations, compelling builders and renovators to adopt alternative heating methods.

The new cylinders address a persistent issue in modern heating systems: many existing storage tanks were originally designed for oil or gas boilers, which operate at raised temperatures. When integrated with heat pumps, the current standard for low-carbon heating, these older tanks frequently suffer from slow recovery times and reduced efficiency. Grant’s QR range resolves this problem by optimizing heat transfer at lower temperatures, delivering faster hot water and improving overall system efficiency.

The project required an €8 million investment in Grant’s Birr, County Offaly, manufacturing plant. This funding supported full research and testing phases, from initial design through prototype validation, ensuring the final product meets both reliability and heat-pump compatibility standards. The resulting line of cylinders is specifically engineered for low-temperature operation, incorporating advanced heat-exchange coils and superior insulation to enhance performance.

The QR range includes four models, Standard, Slimline, Smart Pre-Plumbed, and Smart Integrated, with capacities ranging from 150 to 300 liters. This variety accommodates diverse property types, from small apartments to larger homes. The design also reflects installer input, featuring pre-fitted components and streamlined installation processes to reduce on-site labor.

By producing the QR range in Ireland, Grant reinforces its commitment to local manufacturing while supporting the country’s transition to integrated heating solutions. The company’s strategy focuses on developing systems tailored to Ireland’s housing market, where older storage units were often treated as secondary components. In contrast, the QR cylinders are built to function seamlessly with modern heat pumps, particularly Grant’s Aerona R290 model, which has become a leading choice for low-carbon installations.

Grant’s approach extends beyond hardware, offering a free Heating Design & Specification Service to assist contractors and developers in selecting compatible components. Technical support is also available throughout installation and commissioning, ensuring optimal system performance. This full support reflects an industry-wide move toward treating heating as an interconnected system rather than isolated components.
