The View House, a minimalist home in Boulder, Colorado, was designed by DAJ Design to showcase the owners’ extensive art collection and take advantage of the stunning mountain views. The house was originally planned as a renovation, but due to structural and code issues, the owners decided to start from scratch.
The new build was designed within the exact footprint of the original foundation to avoid extending the timeline with new permits. The homeowners wanted a clean and modern home that was open to showcase the mountain views, while also providing wall space to display their art collection.
A Minimalist Modern Exterior with Mountain Views
The couple worked closely with DAJ Design to choose materials for their 5,776-square-foot home. The setting design team played a key role in the home’s success, with multiple outdoor living areas that take advantage of the lot’s mountain views and create a flow between indoor and outdoor spaces.
The homeowners, avid gardeners, worked with the team to build in spaces they could tend and evolve over time. A rear-facing wall of windows offers a sweeping 180-degree view of Colorado’s Front Range, with each room framing a unique perspective of the outdoors.

Design and Layout
Corten steel, cedar, and glass create a sculptural exterior, while playful pops of yellow, purple, and teal keep the interior feeling warm and welcoming. Every room doubles as a gallery and a window, framing the owners’ art collection alongside sweeping views of the Front Range.
The seamless flow between indoor and outdoor living makes the house feel like an oasis, with features like a fire pit lounge, outdoor kitchen, and pizza oven. The home is both a gallery and a retreat, exemplifying the potential of design to meet varying and sometimes competing needs.
The kitchen features clean lines and playful lighting from Lumens, with countertops from Cambria Natural Quartz Surfaces and backsplash tile from Modwalls Tile. The counter stools are by Design Within Reach, and the windows are sourced from Weather Shield.
Indoor-Outdoor Living
The floor tiles are from Porcelanosa, and the appliances were sourced from Specialty Appliance Inc. The home’s design encourages indoor-outdoor living, with a cozy reading nook and an outdoor kitchen built for entertaining.
