When it comes to premium framing hammers, two names frequently come up: Stiletto and Martinez. Both brands offer high-quality products, but the Stiletto TiBone and Martinez M1 stand out. We put these two hammers to the test.
The design and construction of both hammers are notable. Both are made in the USA, which contributes to their higher price tags, but also sets an expectation of higher quality. The Stiletto TiBone has a titanium handle and head, with a steel face and replaceable grip. The Martinez M1, on the other hand, has a titanium handle with a replaceable steel head and rubberized grip.
The grips on both hammers are different. The Stiletto TiBone has a lightly textured upper section and a smooth lower section, while the Martinez M1 has a wrapped-style texture. Both designs have a comfortable balance of cushion and grip, but the Martinez M1’s deeper channels may provide an advantage in grip if your hands are extremely sweaty or greasy.
After hours of non-stop hammering, we found that the Martinez M1’s grip dug into our hand a little uncomfortably. In contrast, the Stiletto TiBone’s handle comfort was preferred.
The Stiletto TiBone weighs 31.7 ounces and is 17.3 inches long, while the Martinez M1 weighs 32.9 ounces and is 16.4 inches long. Although the weight difference may not be significant, the length difference could affect driving power and fatigue.

However, when gripping the handles so that the thumb settles into the built-in contour, the heads are almost the same distance away from the hand, nullifying the length advantage of the Stiletto TiBone.
We tested the Stiletto TiBone and Martinez M1 by driving hundreds of nails over several hours. They performed well, but with some differences.
Choosing between the two hammers comes down to subjective factors, such as hand size and hammering technique. If you have the opportunity, try using both hammers to see which one you prefer. It is also worth considering the cost of carpentry tools and how they can affect your work.
In terms of price, the Stiletto TiBone is about $65 less than the Martinez M1.
Both the Stiletto TiBone and Martinez M1 are excellent framing hammers, and they’re worth the premium price tags due to their durability and comfort.
