A lake house of stone and timber sits tucked into the woods above Cedar Creek Lake in Texas, designed as a retreat for a family of six. The home, created by SHM Architects and Faulkner Perrin Custom Homes, blends modern Texas charm with cozy, layered details.
The 1-acre property focuses on gathering and relaxation. Inside, three master-sized guest suites and two bunk rooms—one themed for cowboys, the other for cowgirls—provide space with distinct character. The design combines contemporary elements with the rugged feel of the surrounding area.
An infinity-edge pool at the rear extends living space toward the water. The pool features an oversized spa and uses local boulders and materials to match the natural surroundings. Large windows and covered porches keep the lake visible from nearly every room.

The exterior’s layered gabled rooflines and mix of stone and dark vertical wood siding give the impression of a structure that grew naturally on the site.
Setting architect Terrain Workshop and interior designer Erin Sander Design worked on the project, which was photographed by Nathan Schroder. The design favors a lived-in warmth over stark modernity, feeling intentional without being overly polished.
